Controlling Packet Drops to Improve Freshness of Information

Many systems require frequent and regular updates of certain information. These have to be transferred regularly from the source(s) a common destination. We consider scenarios in which an old packet (entire information unit) becomes completely obsolete, presence new packet. transmission channels with unit storage capacity; upon arrival packet, if another is being transmitted then one packets lost. control problem that consists deciding discard so as maximise average age (AAoI). derive drop policies optimize AAoI. show state independent (static) like dropping always or are optimal many scenarios, among appropriate set stationary Markov policies.
